Early Life
Andrei Chikatilo was born in a village called Yabluchnyk, Ukraine SSR on 16th October 1936. He was born into a poor family who lived in a one-roomed hut. His family earned no wages at all. Their only source of income was their right to cultivate the land behind their family hut by the government. Chikatilo's childhood was spent entirely on hunger, poverty, and war.
When the Soviet Union entered World War II, Chikatilo's father was picked to join the Red Army. While his father was in the war, Chikatilo and his mother shared the same bed, and Chikatilo often used to wet the bed. His mother used to physically abuse Chikatilo after every time he wetted the bed. In 1943, Chikatilo's mother gave birth to a girl. It is unknown to this date about the father of that child.
It is claimed that she must be raped by one of the German soldiers which resulted in the second baby's birth. Both Chikatilo and his sister were often beaten by their mother. Chikatilo was also bullied in his school because of his under-nourished stature.
Chikatilo was a good student and was also the newspaper editor for his school. When Chikatilo turned 17, he discovered that he suffered chronic impotence. This fact made him hate himself and hurt him.
Adult Life and Marriage
Andrei Chikatilo, after completing his two-year vocational training shifted to work upon a long-term construction project. to the Urals city of Nizhny Tagil. With the Moscow Electrotechnical Institute of Communication, he also took correspondence courses in Engineering. He worked in the Urals for two years and then was drafted into the Soviet Army in 1957.
He later found a job as a Communications Engineer in North Rostov-on-Don. He rented a small apartment where he lived with his sister for a few months. In 1963, Chikatilo had his marriage with a woman named Feodosia Odnacheva.

Assaults and Murders
In May 1973, Andrei Chikatilo committed his first sexual assault on one of his students who was a 15-year-old girl. Chikatilo swam towards the girl in the University Swimming Pool, groped her, and ejaculated on her.
Months later, he sexually assaulted another teenage girl. Many complaints were lodged against Chikatilo in the University, among which one was that he used to visit the girl's dorms to watch them undressed.
The discipline committee of the college asked Chikatilo to resign voluntarily or they would fire him. Chikatilo resigned from the job and found another teaching job in Shakhty, Rostov-on-Don. But was fired from there too because of the complaints of sexual molestation on his students.
On 22nd December 1978, Chikatilo committed his first murder. The victim was a 9-year-old girl whom he tried to rape but could not get an erection so ended up stabbing her in the abdomen because of frustration. He threw the dead body in the nearby river which was found two days later. Subsequently, Chikatilo went on to murder a few more teenage girls.
Arrests and More Murders
On 13th September 1984, Andrei Chikatilo was followed by two detectives who found him molesting a girl. He was arrested by the feds and served in prison for three months. He was released on 12th December 1984.
Upon his release, he found a new job in Novocherkassk. On 1st August 1985, on a business trip to Moscow, Chikatilo ended up sexually assaulting and strangling an 18-year-old girl to death.
On 6th November 1990, Chikatilo was caught killing a 22-year-old girl by an undercover officer. He was kept under strict surveillance by the undercover where he was often found groping and assaulting young girls.
On 22nd November 1990, Chikatilo was again arrested by police. He claimed that the police were mistaken. After a long series of investigations of his blood and semen type, he was convicted of the following murder.
Confession and Execution
On 29th November 1990, Andrei Chikatilo was made to confess by a psychiatrist named Dr. Alexandr Bukhanovsky. He confessed all his rapes and murders. Chikatilo was found guilty of committing assaults on 52 women.
Chikatilo lodged an appeal of clemency in the summer of 1993 but was rejected on 4th January 1994. On 14th February 1994, Chikatilo was executed by a shot to the back of the head, in a Moscow prison.
