Why should you talk to your plants? Know the reasons behind it! Does Talking Really Help Them Grow?

You can't really think of a life where you are not able to talk to people around you. Even animals have their own signals to communicate. Our dear plants are the only living beings devoid of such visible interaction ability. The idea that talking to plants helps them to grow is not a new notion. Experts believe that this idea came long back in 1848 when German professor Gustav Fechner suggested plants may be capable of feeling human-like emotions.

Later, our very own Acharya Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose felt the quivering of injured parts of plants. Bose interpreted this as a 'power of feeling in plants'. Despite such accounts, we often forget that plants are as lifelike as us. May our article revamp all the conscience in our hearts again.

The History behind

The concept that plants benefit from human tête-à-tête dates back to 1848 when German professor Gustav Fechner issued the book Nanna (Soul-life of Plant). There is evidence that plants answer to sound. In effect, plants respond willingly to a host of environmental stimuli, as the capability to respond to varying environments is vital for their survival.

To support this, a famous television show Mythbusters carried out an experiment in 2004. They brought 7 greenhouses, and each one was provided with a different kind of music. Positive speech recording played in the first two greenhouses while harmful speech in the second two. Classical music and heavy rock metal took the next 2 greenhouses.

The last one was silent. The observation was striking. The greenhouses subjected to speech recordings grew faster than the silent one. Classical music one developed even more. But heavy rock made the plants dance the most. Thus it witnessed the maximum healthy growth.

Plant growth is influence by sound.

We have always seen our grandparents gently whispering as they watered, trimmed and fed their plants. Their gentle whispering has been supposedly said to help them grow. Many studies are confirming that plant growth is predisposed by sound.

Talking to plants helps in the mental growth.

There is no damage you can do to them, and it may give you a psychological boost. Spending time with plants is soothing and encourages good human health, both mentally and physically.

Plants have the same senses as human.

Plants have all of the same sense as humans. Nevertheless, they have more. They have hearing and taste but also sense gravity, or sense something getting in the way of their roots before even coming into contact with it.

Chemicals and Plants

Plants do not have nerve cells as humans do. Still, they do yield neurotransmitters, like dopamine and serotonin chemicals that we humans have in our brains that are used to direct signals. There are some sturdy suggestions that plants do have memories and can absorb from knowledge.

Sound is therefore essential to life that some scientists now consider that there is a fruit of certainty to legends that grasps humans can communicate with plants. Besides, plants may use sound to interconnect with one another.

Root-to-Root Alerts

Root-to-root alerts could transmute a forest into a biological switchboard. An entire forest is interrelated networks of fungi, maybe plants are using mushrooms the way we use the internet and transferring acoustic indicators through this Web.

Benefits of Talking to Plants

Talking to plants evidently de-stresses them. Apart from the verified one, there are few more benefits that we can count on. When we speak or speak, we release carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide will stimulate photosynthesis in plants. Alongside this, vibration also accentuates the working of two essential genes. These influence further growth of plants.

Female and Male Voices Experiment

Scientists have instituted that plants nurture faster to the sound of a female voice than to a male voice. They verified ten people reading from either literary or scientific works, both men and women, and played their voices through a set of headphones that were connected to each tomato's plant pot. The same tomato assortment was used, with the same soil and maintenance surroundings.

At the close of the month, the plants that had been heeding to female voices raised an average of an inch higher than those attached to a male voice. It has been said that women have a better range of pitch or tone that moves the sound waves that hit the plant, and that sound, just like any other environmental aspect, has an effect on plant growth.

Conclusion

We often see pet-lovers spending hours talking to their friends forever. But if a plant lover does the same with his or her associate, we sardonically ridicule them. We forget that plants are actually living beings, and these actions are doing them good. So, if you are a Green Panther and love reading out your favourite books to your autotrophic friends-be proud of it.

We understand that like any other mortal form, plants too need care, attention and interaction. In case no one applauds for your activism, we are always here to appreciate such bold steps taken in favour of our dear friends.
